Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with a delegation of Greek monks in an airport in St. Petersburg this past week which brought the “Agia Zoni” or the holy belt, believed to have belonged to the Virgin Mary, to Russia for worshiping. It is the first time that this relic of this sort has been taken to Russia.
A Byzantine legend says that not long before Mary’s death, Her garments and belt were handed over to two pious widows in Jerusalem. The “Agia Zoni” is kept at the Vatoped monastery on Mount Athos.
It is believed that the belt has a power to help childless women to have children.
As seen in the picture above, the Russian Prime Minister bestowed his respect to the “Agia Zoni”.
