A proud statue of Alexander the Great was unveiled recently in Litochoro , which lies at the foot of Mount Olympus in the Pieria prefecture. The statue is a creation of University Professor Constantine Paleologos and is described to be bronze statue with an internal steel frame, that weighs some 1,500 kg and is 4×4 meters big.
The statue will certainly be a staple landmark in this historical Greek town. Litochoro is a small modern town with a population of 7000 inhabitants located at the foothills of Mount Olympus just five km from the sea. It combines the cool of the mountain air with the sea breeze and visitors can walk around the lanes between the traditional houses with the Macedonian architecture, the old wooden courtyard doors and the gabled roofs, work of Litochoro wood turners and stonemasons.
