Wildfires are burned out of control on the Greek island of Zante but populated areas were not threatened, authorities said Monday. The fire brigade told the state news agency that eight engines with 18 firefighters, two water-dropping airplanes and a helicopter battled the blaze in a forest between the villages of Volimes and Anahoritria. A fire that erupted on the island of Evia Sunday had been partially contained. It was one 75 wildfires reported across Greece in a span of 24 hours. The National Meteorological Service forecast temperatures above 100 degrees for several days, the Macedonian News Agency reported.
