During an exciting musical event at the Hellenic Community Centre in Montreal on Sunday, an innovative children’s book and CD in the Greek language entitled “The Magic Recorder was presented by the Chroma Musika.
Under the artistic direction of Katerina Giannikos as well as the vocal guidance of soloists Maria Diamantis and Dimitris Ilias, 54 young songbirds from the Chroma Musika/Socrates Children’s choir with the famous Children’s group TA ZOUZOUNIA from Athens get together to sing in this unique and massive production of The Magic Recorder – Η ΜΑΓΙΚΗ ΦΛΟΓΕΡΑ based on the Piper of Hamelin, giving parents, faculty, and fans an unforgettable and magical performance.
Together with the 55-instrument Ensemble Simfonia De Montreal conducted by renowned Maestro Louis Lavigueur, the children recorded alongside the soloists and actors of this wondrous new book/cd. Adapted by Christina Manias with music & Lyrics by Giannis Georgantelis, this children’s book/CD is produced by Montreal based Panarmonia Atelier Musical and Chroma Musika in collaboration with Greece’s biggest label: LEGEND. Home of such artists as George Dalaras, Mikis Theodorakis and Dimitri Mitropoulos.
The necessity of performing and promoting Hellenic Classical Music works in North America, urged Hellenic-Canadian opera singers Maria Diamantis and Dimitris Ilias to found Chroma Musika. In the 10 years of its existence the company has organized a plethora of concerts, seminars and recordings ranging from ancient Greek music to contemporary Greek composers. Chroma Musika provides employment opportunities to many Quebec musicians while at the same time maintaining its ties with Greece by inviting renowned musicians for concerts and recordings.
Its discography includes 4 CDs including the award-winning Piangerò.
Over the past five years Chroma Musika has turned its attention to children, recording children’s operas and musicals in collaboration with famous publishing houses from Greece like Kedros Publishers and Filippos Nakas Music House.
Some of their works include: The Selfish Giant became, The Little Fugitives, the House in the Forest and the Carnival of Miracles and Monsters.
The children are selected from 13 different schools of Montreal and Laval, but the majority, however, come from the trilingual Socrates Elementary School of the Hellenic Community of Montreal which has been a strong supporter of Chroma Musikas’ activities.
